Chapter 5

Keeran

“You sure that’s not something to sleep in?” I ask, leaning over the door of the car. Shite, Leti’s just as sexy as always. The grey slip nearly falling off her shoulders barely holds back her plump tits. It even has slits up the sides, nearly revealing her arse. Leti, tonight, is a woman wanting to get fucked.

“Hello!” Her shout shatters my thoughts. Sharp and irritated, her expression pinches when I look up. “Move out of the way, you big, drooling idiot.”

“Someone’s testy,” I start, but Leti cuts the fieriest glare at me. My banter was dry on my tongue. Did something happen? I don’t have the opportunity to ask when she shoulders her way past me, knocking me hard in the arm. Gripping the spot, I frown as she climbs into the back seat of the car. She crosses her arms with a huff as I shut the door before rounding the car.

I can’t help but wonder what happened as we drove off. Leti rolls down the window, letting in the air. Looking back at her in the small mirror, I grind my molars.

“How’ve things been at the Mackenzie estate?” I ask, trying to break the silence. Leti glances at me, and our eyes meet in the mirror. “Have you had a chance to talk to Sloane and Greer?”

“Yeah. It was awkward and uncomfortable,” Leti answers, her tone clipped. I turn my gaze back to the road, her little gasp flowing over my shoulder and into my ear. “It’s nothing I want to do again, that’s for sure.”

“Uh, it’d help if you’d tell me where I’m supposed to go,” I say eventually as we reach a small stop sign, and I twist to look at her. Leti’s smirking down at her phone, and I know that smirk. That’s the same smirk she shot me months ago in that pub.

“Maeve’s,” she answers shortly. I fight a sigh. I’m getting tired of the beer there.

Driving to the pub is second nature to me, and my mind wanders. Why was Leti in such a bad mood? It couldn’t be because I was staring at her. She likes the attention, I know. No matter how she tries to deny it.

“You have to sit somewhere else,” Leti says suddenly while I park. I look back, frowning. She casts me a look, and I roll my eyes before pulling into the tight parking space. “Who’s going to dare attack me in Maeve’s? You’ll be fine.”

“Aye, aye,” I answer before cutting the engine. We climb out of our respective seats, and I look at Leti over the top of the car. “I can’t help myself if the guy’s a total tool, though.”

“You can suffer in silence,” Leti says, and I freeze. Immediately, she pulls a face. My heart slams against my ribs in the ensuing stillness before Leti shakes her head. “I’m sorry, Keeran. That was uncalled for.”

“Yes, it was. I don’t know what’s got your panties in a twist, Leti, but don’t take it out on me.
